Liver Transplant Selection & Referral Criteria at Tampa General Hospital

Do You Qualify for a Liver Transplant?
TGH’s Advanced Organ Disease & Transplantation Institute helps manage and treat a variety of issues related to liver disease both acute and chronic. Issues and conditions that we treat include cirrhosis, HCV, HBV, NASH or fatty liver disease, liver cancer, autoimmune hepatitis, polycystic liver disease, cholestatic diseases, acute liver injury, and failure from a toxic event or infection. For patients who have been diagnosed with more severe, multi-organ issues, Tampa General does consider dual organ transplantation in some circumstances. If you’re unsure whether our team is able to help you based on your liver conditions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our team is available for questions regarding disease management and referrals.

The Evaluation Process
Once we receive the referral form that you or your physician completes, our liver transplant team will conduct an initial review of your medical records and determine if you need to come in for further evaluation. Once any other necessary evaluations and tests are complete, your information will be reviewed by our Medical Review Board, which will ultimately decide whether you will be placed on the liver transplant waiting list or if a medical management treatment track would be more appropriate for you.
